Obituary

Loris P. Pike, age 75, died Friday, December 19, 2003, at his home in Aurora, South Dakota. Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, December 23, 2003, at First United Methodist Church in Brookings, with interment and military graveside rites at Fairview Cemetery at Aurora, South Dakota. Visitations will be 5-8 PM Monday at Eidsness Funeral Home in Brookings. Memorials may be directed to the Brookings Hospice. Loris P. Pike was born November 28, 1928, at Aurora, South Dakota, to Frank and Grace (Short) Pike. He attended school in Aurora. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and the Korean War and in the National Guard. He was discharged from the Army in 1956. Past employers include Frie Motors of Brookings and Tillman Motors of Milbank. On December 30, 1961, he married Gloria Peters in Milbank. He owned and operated the Aurora Auto Body and Glass starting in 1963. Loris was a member of the United Methodist Church in Aurora where he had served as a trustee and president of the administrative board. He was a past commander of the Pike-Huska American Legion Post in Aurora. He was a member of the Antique Car Club, Optimists, and served on fire departments in Milbank and Aurora, where he was fire chief. He coached American Legion baseball, and enjoyed restoring vehicles, playing cards and board games, puzzles, camping, traveling, hunting, and fishing and spending time with his grandchildren. Survivors include his wife, Gloria, of Aurora; seven children: Tammy (Korry) Hansen of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Kim (Steve) Beiningen of Brandon, South Dakota, Donelle (David) Wulf of Sioux Falls, Tom (Tina) Pike of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Robert Nelson of Portland, Oregon, Rita Wright of Mojave, California, and Cheri Crosly of Vancouver, Washington; 14 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; two brothers: Gail (Liz) Pike of Brookings, South Dakota, and Chan (Marge) Pike of Jackson, Minnesota; and a twin sister, Maris (Charles) Breaw of Sioux Falls. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Delbert; a son, Steven; and a granddaughter, Roxanne.
