Dr. Loren W. Spease, age 77, of Brookings, died Saturday, November 17, 2007, at Brookview Manor in Brookings. Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, November 20, 2007, at Bethel Baptist Church in Brookings. Visitations will be from 5-8 P.M. Monday at Eidsness Funeral Home in Brookings. Interment will be held at a later date at Maplewood Cemetery in Luverne, Minnesota Loren William Spease was born September 15, 1930, at Luverne, Minnesota, to Chester C. and Ethelwyn M. (Coon) Spease. He graduated from Luverne High School in 1948 and later the U.S. Navy School of Journalism. He served in the Marines during the Korean Conflict, and was discharged in 1952. On April 15, 1953, he married Darlene Braa at Luverne. Loren co-owned the Spease Tire Shop prior to attending the Northwestern College of Chiropractic in Minneapolis, where he graduated in 1958. He was a Doctor of Chiropractic Medicine in Brookings from 1958 until his retirement in 2000. Loren was involved in various activities as a member of Bethel Baptist Church and the church mens group. He sang with the church choir and male quartet. He was a member of the American Legion, Disabled American Veterans, and Golden K Kiwanis Club. He had formerly been a member of the Lions, Elks, Masonic Lodge, and El Riad Shrine Temple in Sioux Falls. He helped organize the Brookings Civil Air Patrol and received his private pilots license at age 16. He served in the reserves of the Minnesota National Guard and was a member of the Sioux Falls Veterans Council. He was named Marine of the Year in 1993 by the Marine Corps League in Sioux Falls. Survivors include his wife, Darlene Spease, of Brookings; two sons: Bryce Spease of Brookings and Craig (Karen) Spease of Houston, Texas; two daughters: Laura (Bruce) Cardwell of Beardsley, Minnesota, and Julie (Quinten) Hofer of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; eight grandchildren; and a brother, Donald (Myrna) Spease, of Luverne, Minnesota.
