IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Lois
Johnson
May 11, 1954 – March 17, 2026
Lois Johnson (71) passed away at the United Living Community on March 17, 2026 where she excelled in Bingo and Trivia.
Lois Anne Johnson was born the 6th of 8 children to the Rev. Condon H. Terry and Elma (Beardslee) Terry on May 11, 1954 in Kadoka, SD. Her family moved to Phillip and later to Madison, South Dakota. When she was in 7th grade she moved with the family to California. They lived in several cities and finally settled in Downey where Lois graduated from high school. While in High School she worked as a Candy Striper in a local hospital where she met David Z. Johnson. They eventually married and had a daughter, Carol Anne.
Lois and Carol have been Brookings residents since 1977 when they moved to be close to Lois’s sister, Ellen. The Brookings Library is a place that they frequented over the years. Lois was an avid history buff, mystery reader and Jeopardy player. She was especially well read on The British Monarchy, the American Revolution and the Civil War.
Lois is survived by her daughter, Carol Johnson, siblings Glenn Terry (Virginia), Ely, NV, Carol Terry (Jim Janecek), Providence, RI, Ellen Schwenk (Terry), Brookings, Beth Terry, Cave Creek, AZ, David Terry, (Yvonne), Prescott, AZ, Daniel Terry, (Cindi Varela), Mill Creek, WA, and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Lois was preceded in death by her parents, a younger brother, Timothy Terry, and nephew, Alex Schwenk.
The family extends their gratitude for the excellent care given to Lois to every person who had interacted with her: at the Brookings Area Transit Authority (BATA), the Brookings Hospital, the Brookings Ambulance service and EMTs, the Avantara Nursing Home in Lake Norden, and the United Living Community.
