Lois was born on March 21, 1932, to Mark and Nora (Pederson) Henrikson at their home near Arlington. She began her education at Bangor Township country school, then attended Sinai High School. Following her graduation her love for school led her to pursue a teaching career. This began at a country school near Sinai and continued as her life led her to teaching jobs at Colman, Rapid City, Wayzata, Minnesota, Sinai, Arlington, Volga Christian, and finally Spring Lake Colony near Sinai.
She married Virgil Bolstad on August 15, 1954. They lived in Wayzata, Minnesota, during Virgil's final year in the service. Following that they moved back to Sinai where Virgil farmed until his retirement in 1996. This allowed them to enjoy their winters in Mesa, Arizona.
Lois was active in the Sinai Auxiliary and the Sinai Lutheran WELCA. She loved to stay busy and her many talents reflected her love of the arts, as well as sports and the great outdoors. She enjoyed sewing, crafts, gardening, making lefse, quilting, and painting. She learned to play the piano and organ but also taught herself to play the guitar, accordion, violin, and harmonica.
Horseshoes was a passion and she was the South Dakota State Champion for ten years after which she was inducted into the South Dakota Horseshoe Hall of Fame. She looked forward to football and basketball season so she could watch her grandchildren participate. She was an avid follower of professional baseball, football, and basketball leagues, and rarely missed watching the Phoenix Suns.
In the summer she enjoyed fishing and camping with her family. She was always eager to hear about her grandchildren's adventures hunting and trapping. Her many paintings reflected her appreciation and love of God's creation.
Survivors include her husband, Virgil, daughter Sue Docter (Ron Klosterman), sons Greg (Carol) Bolstad, and Mike (Donna) Bolstad all of Sinai; her brothers: Alden (Linda) Henrikson of California, and Wayne (Maxine) Henrikson of Rapid City; a sister, Marjorie Tribuzi, of Brookings; sisters-in-law: Audrey (Wallace) Tvedt of Volga, Phyllis (Willis) Hanson of Sioux Falls, and Marlene (John) Berven of Texas; nine grandchildren; many nieces and nephews, and other relatives and friends too numerous to count.
