Lloyd Raymond Johnson was born June 8, 1917, in Lake Sinai Township, Brookings County, South Dakota, to John M. and Carrie (Hanson) Johnson. He died Wednesday, November 20, 2002, of lung cancer, at the Brookings Hospital in Brookings, South Dakota. Lloyd was baptized and confirmed at Sinai Lutheran Church. He attended grade school at Sunny Hill school near Sinai. On August 30, 1939, he married Leonora Josephine Johnson in Pierce, Nebraska. They farmed in the Sinai area until 1950, and then in the Rutland area until moving to Brookings in 1969, where Lloyd was employed as a mechanic at Beckman Implement for seven years, and then at Hoffelt Motors from 1978 until he retired in 1985 to take care of his wife. Josephine died of cancer on November 28, 1986. Lloyd married Emma Hill on July 25, 1987, in Brookings. Lloyd was a member of First Lutheran Church and served on the dance committee at Senior Citizens. He enjoyed working in the dirt and gardening. Survivors include his wife, Emma, of Brookings; two daughters: Joanne (Jim) Jensen of Brookings, and Sheryl (Bruce) Larsen of Black Hawk, South Dakota; a sister, Dorothy (LeVerne) Swedlund, of Arlington, South Dakota; a sister-in-law, Mary Johnson, of Arlington; three grandchildren: Kimberly (Scott) Yunginger, Tammy (Sam) McGuffey, and Chad Herron; and three nephews: Jerry and Curtis Swedlund, and Don Johnson. He was preceded in death by his wife Josephine; parents; and two brothers, Donald and Palmer Johnson.
