Dr. Lloyd F. Elliott, age 78, of Brookings, died Sunday, July 19, 2015, at the Brookings Hospital. Memorial services will be 11:00 A.M. Monday, July 27, 2015, at Our Savior Lutheran Church. Visitations will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Eidsness Funeral Home is handling the arrangements. Lloyd was born on July 5, 1937, to Floren and Nellie Elliott, he was baptized as an infant in the United Methodist Church. He was confirmed at Trinity Lutheran in 1959. He grew up on a farm in Clear Lake, SD. Lloyd attended school in Clear Lake. After high school he went on to get his graduate degree at SDSU, Kansas State University, and Oregon State University. Lloyd married Lorna Wiesner on June 8, 1958, and they had two children, Paul and Dawn. Dr. Elliott spent his entire research career as a soil microbiologist with the United State Department of Agriculture. He was noted for his work on no-till seeding of crops into crop residues. His work on animal waste disposal and odor control is widely cited. Lloyd worked on and is noted for his work on surface applied organisms for weed control. In 1982, he was named as a distinguished soil scientist by United Kingdom research organization. In 2008, he was named as one of the most distinguished soil scientists in the world. Lloyd loved to fish and hunt and did so as much as time allowed. Retirement gave him more time to pursue these hobbies. He was preceded in death by his father and mother. Grateful for all the many wonderful years he had with Lorna and his son Paul (Karen) of Keizer, OR and daughter Dawn (Ray) of Bakersfield, CA and grandchildren Jacob Elliott and Alyssa Elliott (Grand Rapids, MI) and Kayla Sanders (Charlie) of Oklahoma and Alexandria Huff of Bakersfield. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Cancer Society or Our Savior Lutheran church.
