Obituary

Lloyd Clauson, age 77, of Brookings, died Sunday, January 16, 2005, at Brookview Manor in Brookings. Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Friday, January 28, 2005, at First Lutheran Church in Brookings with interment in the church cemetery. Visitations will be from 4-7 P.M. Thursday, January 27, at Eidsness Funeral Home in Brookings. Lloyd Alen Clauson was born September 1, 1927, on the family homestead in Brookings County, to Sam L. and Nellie (Riley) Clauson. He attended country school in Brookings County and then worked for John Morrell in Sioux Falls in the mid-1940's. On September 7, 1949, he married LaVonne Lunde at Hendricks, Minnesota. Lloyd and LaVonne's first business together was running the filling station in Brandt, South Dakota. They moved to Brookings and he became a mechanic for Beckman's John Deere dealership and then a plumber for Cooper Plumbing and Heating. He later ran his own business selling windows and doors and installing appliances for Sears and Wards. Lloyd had the innate ability to fix anything and was well known around Brookings for his skill as a handyman. He built both of the homes in which he and LaVonne raised their three daughters. Lloyd was a member of First Lutheran Church for 50 years. He and LaVonne loved to travel, taking numerous sightseeing trips spanning the continental U.S. He enjoyed playing cards, listening to old-time fiddle music, drinking coffee with his buddies and good conversation with family and friends. After retirement, Lloyd and LaVonne enjoyed spending their winters in Arizona and summers in Brookings. Survivors include three daughters: Iris (Bruce) Stuart of Yorba Linda, California, Annette Clauson of Gaithersburg, Maryland, and Michelle (Gregg) LaRue of Reston, Virginia; two grandsons, Chris Stuart of New York City, New York and Scott Stuart of Irvine, California; three brothers: Don (Barb) Clauson of Rapid City, South Dakota, Sam (Bernice) Clauson of Rapid City, South Dakota, and Arnold (Trish) Clauson of Denison, Texas; and one sister, Marilyn Zemlicka of Brookings. He was preceded in death by his wife LaVonne, his brother Caroll, and his sister Marie (Holman).
