Lillie Rieck, age 91, died Friday, March 14, 2008, at the Brookings Hospital in Brookings, South Dakota. Funeral Services will be 1:00 P.M. Wednesday, at Bethel Baptist Church in Brookings, with interment in Greenwood Cemetery. Visitations will be from 7 to 9 P.M. Tuesday, at Eidsness Funeral Home in Brookings. Lillie Doris (Hemmingsen) Rieck was born December 17, 1916, at Flandreau, South Dakota, to Anton Fredrick (Fred) and Nelsina (Pedersen) Hemmingsen. She died Friday, March 14, 2008, at the Brookings Hospital in Brookings, South Dakota. Lillie Doris (Hemmingsen) Rieck was born December 17, 1916, at Flandreau, South Dakota, to Anton Fredrick Fred and Nelsina (Pedersen) Hemmingsen. She died Friday, March 14, 2008, at the Brookings Hospital in Brookings, South Dakota. Lillie was raised on a farm south of Lake Campbell, South Dakota, attending Galla country school. Lillie graduated salutatorian from Brookings High School in 1934, and graduated from hairdressing school in Minneapolis, Minnesota in 1935, working there until married. On February 25, 1939, she married Harold Paul Rieck at Decorah, Iowa. The Riecks moved to Lockport, New York. Lillie worked as a hairdresser until retiring in 1945 to raise a family. In 1948 they moved to South Dakota to farm near her childhood home. Harold died January 19, 1974. Lillie was a member of First United Methodist Church in Brookings where she worked with the ladies aide for many years. She took up landscape painting in retirement, and was a lifelong reader. Survivors include four children: Paul (Leone) Rieck of Cincinnati, Ohio; Marge (Michael) Kondak of Nokomis, Florida; Donna (Al Tolbert) Christensen of San Carlos, California; and David (Cindy) Rieck of Janesville, Wisconsin; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren; two sisters: Helen Hemmingsen of Brookings; and Millie Matters of Brookings. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Harry, and husband Harold.
