Les Hoffman, age 92, of Brookings, passed away, Tuesday, March 6, 2018, at the Brookings Hospital. Visitations will be from 2-4 p.m. Sunday, March 11, 2018, at Eidsness Funeral Home. Burial will be private on Monday at Greenwood Cemetery. Memorial Services will be 7:00 P.M. Monday, March 12, 2018, at Peace Lutheran Church in Brookings.

Les was born on April 22, 1925, to Charles F. and Carolina (Meier) Hoffman in McPherson County, South Dakota.  He was raised on the farm and graduated from Leola High School in 1943.  Les was drafted into the United States Army and served his country faithfully during WWII earning the Purple Heart.  After his honorable discharge, Les married Virginia Jundt on July 4, 1950.  The couple lived in Leola, SD, for six years before moving to Brookings, SD.

Les was a regional  manager for Peavey Lumber Company until 1984, at which time he partnered and purchased the lumber yards in the area and changed the name to Homestead.  Les continued to work until he was 75 years old, retiring after 50 years in the lumber business.  Les was a member of Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church and then Peace Lutheran Church in Brookings.  He faithfully served his church, and will be missed as a Sunday greeter.  He was a 70 year member of the American Legion and longtime member of the Northwestern Lumberman's Association.  He enjoyed hunting during his younger years, gardening, mowing lawn, and especially loved a good game of golf.

Survivors include his wife, Virginia, daughters, Joy (John) Mills and Jane (Paul) Hanusa, his grandchildren Jennifer (Andy) Johnson, Jacob (Tara) Mills, John (Ashton) Hanusa and Zach Hanusa and 5 great grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Peace Lutheran Early Childhood Center.
