Obituary

LeRoy M. Carlson, age 80, died on Friday, June 28, 2013, at the Brookings Health System in Brookings. Funeral Services will be 1:30PM, Tuesday, July 2, 2013, at Grace Lutheran Church in Bruce, SD. Visitation will be from 5PM until 7PM on Monday, at the Eidsness Funeral Home in Brookings. LeRoy Carlson was born on December 18, 1932, in Kingsbury County, South Dakota, the son of Ragnar "Tom" and Betty (Liljegren) Carlson. He received his education in rural school in Kingsbury County, SD. He served in the United States Army from 1953 until 1955. He was united in marriage to JoAnn Moen on October 18, 1956, in Brookings. After their marriage they farmed near Dell Rapids, SD until 1961, when they moved near Arlington, SD. LeRoy then farmed near Bruce, SD from 1962 until his retirement in 1994. In November of 1994, they moved to Lake Poinsett. He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Bruce, and also a member of the Bowlers Association. He enjoyed fishing, dancing, bowling, and especially spending time with family and friends. LeRoy is survived by his wife JoAnn of Lake Poinsett; his children, Sherry (Ron) Nesheim of Renner, SD, Lois (Dave) Eller, Donna (Dale) Tolk, Todd (Crystal) Carlson all of Brookings, SD; eight grandchildren; four great grandchildren; two brothers Melvin (June) Carlson, Floyd (Norma) Carlson all of Lake Norden, SD; two sisters Vera Thomas of Lake Norden, and Dorothy (Bud) Strande of Lake Preston, SD. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother (Ole), one sister Delores, and two infant sons.
