Obituary

Leora Colbeck, age 94, of Brookings, died Monday, January 20, 2014, at Neighborhoods at Brookview. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 24, 2014, at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Brookings, with interment in New Woodlawn Cemetery in Pipestone, Minnesota. Visitations will be from 4-7 p.m. Thursday at Our Savior Lutheran Church. Eidsness Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Leora Emma (Jetter) Colbeck was born May 28, 1919, in Pipestone, Minnesota, to George and Emilie (Mohr) Jetter. She grew up in Pipestone County where she was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Church in Trosky, Minnesota. She married Leland Colbeck on September 8, 1946. They farmed southeast of Pipestone until 1958, then moved to a farm south of Ruthton, and in 1959 to a farm north of Elkton. In 1969 they bought the Fulmur Station five miles north of Elkton. In 1978 she sold it and moved to Elkton and worked in Dakota Industries in Flandreau. In 1982 she moved to Brookings and worked at Midtex Company. In 1984 she began working for the Medary Acres Greenhouse in Brookings until retiring in 2000. In December 2011 Leora moved to Brookview Manor. Leora was an active member of Our Savior Lutheran Church. She enjoyed gardening, reading, quilting, sewing, embroidery, and doing puzzles. Survivors include by her five children: Ervin (Betty) Colbeck of Aurora, South Dakota, Verdeen (Verlinda) Colbeck of Pipestone, Minnesota, Mardell Colbeck of Brookings, Loren (Pam) Colbeck of Brookings, and Lori (Gary) Rydell of Flandreau, South Dakota; eleven grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; three sisters-in-law: Marian Colbeck of Minneapolis, Minnesota, Patty Morrel of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and LaVerl Lorenzen Luverne, Minnesota; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband on October 26, 1973; her parents; a brother, Eldo Jetter; and a sister, Christine Smidt.
