Obituary

Leona A. Bozied, age 91, of Brookings, died Thursday, January 12, 2012, at Brookview Manor in Brookings. Memorial services will be 11:00 A.M. Monday, January, 16, 2012, at Bethel Baptist Church in Brookings, with interment in Greenwood Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the Brookings Hospice. Leona A. (Rasmussen) Bozied was born March 20, 1920, in Brookings County, South Dakota, to Gilbert and Matilda (Gustava) Rasmussen. She graduated from Bruce High School. Leona was united in marriage to Naiem T. Bozied on October 18, 1942, in Brookings, South Dakota. After their marriage they resided for a short time in Long Beach, California, before returning to Bruce, South Dakota, where they operated the Bruce Market. The Bozieds then moved to Sioux Falls, South Dakota, returning to Brookings in 1950. In 1955 they purchased the Conoco Station at 8th St. and Main. In 1956 they moved to Gulfport, Mississippi, and operated a produce business until 1958 when they moved back to Brookings and repurchased the Conoco Station. They continued to own and operate the Conoco Station until 1980. Naiem died on May 3, 2000. Leona was a member of the Bethel Baptist Church. She dedicated her life to serving those she loved and to her Lord Jesus. She was a loving wife, mother grandmother and great-grandmother. Her constant prayer was that those she loved would accept Jesus as their Savior. She spent untold hours reading Bible stories to her grandchildren, and preparing wonderful meals of pot roast, mashed potatoes, and homemade buns to the delight of her family. The cookie jar was always full, and she always found time to spend with her grandchildren in a game of gin rummy, dot to dot and other board games. Survivors include one daughter, Donna (Bob) Burns, of Brookings; two sons: Bob (Kathy) Bozied, of Denver, Colorado, and Tom (Beth) Bozied, of Brookings; 12 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; a sister, Evelyn Bradley, of Minneapolis, Minnesota. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son, David, and seven brothers.
