Mary Leonor Fesler, age 91, died peacefully at home Monday, July 10, 2006, in the loving arms of her family from complications of pneumonia. Lee and her twin brother, Leon, were born January 27, 1915, at home in Boyden, Iowa to Frederick and Anna (Keller) Van Goor. She attended several schools in Iowa and was united in marriage June 17, 1934, to Clarence Leighton Fesler at Sioux City, IA. Lee and Leighton lived in Sioux City, Le Mars, Dunlap, and Hawarden, Iowa and Yankton, South Dakota. Lee was a devoted homemaker and mother to her family of four children. In later years she worked in several retail stores, as an apartment manager, and devoted time to volunteer and service work. Mom will always be remembered for her sense of humor, her support and encouragement, her faith and example, her persistence and courage, her warm love of family and friends, and kind, caring and unselfish service to others. Lee is survived by her four children, Dorothy Childs, Toledo, Oregon; Carol (Bob) Tschida, Nisswa, Minnesota; Ron (Tina) Fesler, Aurora, South Dakota; Gary Fesler, Wilsall, Montana: 23 grandchildren; 43 great-grandchildren, 26 great-great-grandchildren; and one sister, Marian Trebon, Sequim, Washington. She is further survived by her special nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, an infant son, Leighton, two grandchildren, Wanda and Bobbie, two great-grandchildren, and her four brothers, Vincent, Edwin, Leon, and Joe. Funeral Services for Lee Fesler will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, July 14, at St. Thomas More Parish, 1700 8th Street South, Brookings, South Dakota. Father Mike Wensing, pastor, will officiate. Entombment will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Yankton, South Dakota. Relatives and friends are welcome for family visitation at the St. Thomas More Parish chapel, Friday from 9:30 a.m. until the hour of services. A Rosary service will be held from 9:00 to 9:15 a.m. in the chapel. In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established in her name at the Brookings Hospice Program.
