Obituary

Lavada J. Schlotman, age 83, of Brookings, died Saturday, October 8, 2016, at the Brookings Hospital. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 12, 2016, at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church, with interment in Greenwood Cemetery. Visitations will be from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday at Eidsness Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to The Neighborhoods at Brookview.

Lavada J. (Eberlein) Schlotman was born June 9, 1933, in Brookings County, South Dakota, to Frank and Gladys (Messerschmidt) Eberlein. She was employed for a short time at Council Oak Grocery Store where she met Stanley Schlotman; they were married on August 11, 1957 in Brookings. They farmed northwest of Brookings from 1959 until 1968 when they purchased a farm west of Volga. They continued to farm until their retirement in 1996. They moved to Brookings in 2003.

Lavada was a member of Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church in Brookings, the LWML, and the Brookings Hospital Auxiliary. She volunteered at the Neighborhoods at Brookview, enjoyed gardening, and especially enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.

Lavada is survived by her children: Keith Schlotman of Volga, SD, Karl (Sheri) Schlotman of Brandon, SD, and Beverly (Trevor) Fuss of West Fargo, ND; six grandchildren: Tyler, Hunter, Rylee, Ryan, and Madison Schlotman of Brandon, SD, and Andrea Schlotman of Edina, MN; three step-grandchildren: Justin Vostad of Brookings, Brandon Vostad of Sioux Falls, and Ashlee Ricketts of Sioux Falls; two sisters: Lorraine Berkland of Brookings and Joyce Eberlein of Oneida, NY; two brothers: Delvin (Athene) Eberlein of Eau Claire, WI and Melvin (Rudella) Eberlein of Bettendorf, IA; a sister-in-law, Pearl Eberlein, of Eugene, OR; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Stanley in 2010; son, Kevin in 2015; a sister, Fern Otteson; two brothers, Alvin and Calvin Eberlein; sister-in-law: Caroline Eberlein; and two brothers-in-law, Randall Otteson and Edwin Berkland.
