Lauretta M. Chapman, 89, of Brookings, died Wednesday, May 30, 2012, at the Brookview Manor. Funeral Services will be 2:00 P.M. Sunday, June 3, 2012, at First Lutheran Church in Volga, with interment in the church cemetery. Visitations will be from 4-7 P.M. Saturday at Eidsness Funeral Home in Brookings. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the American Cancer Society. Lauretta Maxine Chapman was born on February 11, 1923, to Norman and Charlotte (Olson) Pederson in Arlington, South Dakota. She grew up in Arlington where she attended grade school and graduated from Arlington High School. She married Lyle O. Chapman on September 5, 1941 at Diamond Lake Church in Ivanhoe, Minnesota. Lauretta was a good housewife and mother. She worked four years at the United Retirement Center in Brookings and also ten years for 3M in Brookings. Lyle died November 29, 2006. Lauretta is survived by two children: Jerilyn (Bob) Canfield of Chula Vista, California, and Dan (Deb) Chapman of Brookings, South Dakota; ten grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Lyle; her parents, Norman and Charlotte; one son, David; two sisters: Mavis and Norma; and five brothers; Floyd, Lloyd, John, Willard, and Hollis.
