Laura P. Thompson, age 81, of Brookings, died Friday, March 3, 2006, at Brookview Manor in Brookings. Funeral services will be 10:30 A.M. Tuesday, March 7, 2006, at Sinai Lutheran Church in Sinai, with interment in the West Sinai Lutheran Cemetery. Visitations will precede services at the church on Tuesday morning. Laura Palma (DiDomenico) Thompson was born December 16, 1924, at Chicago, Illinois, to Antonio and Vincenza DiDomenico. She grew up and attended commercial high school in Chicago. On April 7, 1962, she married Glen R. Thompson at Chicago. In 1965 they moved to Sioux Falls, where Laura worked for Good Samaritan and Sioux Valley Hospital. The Thompsons moved to Brookings in 1967, and Laura worked for the SDSU food service. Glen died June 30, 2000. Laura was a member of the United Church of God. She served as a mentor at Medary Elementary School and was a member of the Literacy Council. She was a foster parent. She was proud of her Italian heritage, and enjoyed cooking and entertaining family and friends. She was an avid fan of the Chicago Cubs. Survivors include her children: Lauren Cook of Lockport, Illinois, William (Kathleen) Cook of Sarasota, Florida, David (Wanda) Cook of Brookings, Anthony (Debbie) Cook of Sioux Falls, Glen Thompson, Jr. (Janice) of Boone, Iowa, and Anita (Ralph) Rekemeyer of DeWitt, Iowa; eleven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law: Dorothy DiDomenico of Neptune, New Jersey, and Anne Lehne of Naperville, Illinois; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and seven brothers and sisters: Irma Olsen, Ella Pellino, Basil DiDomenico, Sam DiDomenico, Phyllis Widmann, Matthew DiDomenico, and Leo DiDomenico.
