Laura Jayne Shumaker, age 52, of Brookings, passed away on Monday, May 23, 2022, at the Brookings Hospital. Visitations will be from 4-7 P.M. on Thursday, May 26 ^th at Eidsness Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. on Friday also at Eidsness Funeral Home.

Laura Jayne Shumaker was born on June 12, 1969, to Larry Dreesman and Barbara Adams.  She attended Lowell Elementary, Axtell Junior High, and graduated from Washington High School in Sioux Falls in 1987.  Growing up, Laura enjoyed spending weekends at Lake Madison where her great-grandparents had a cabin.  She loved playing with Barbie dolls, riding her bike, and playing with the kids in her neighborhood.

Throughout her life, Laura held positions with B&G Ice Cream Shop, Sunshine Foods, Citibank, State Capital Federal Credit Union, BMU, First Bank & Trust, the Methodist Church, 3M, Mills Development Corp., and perhaps her most important job of all-as a stay-at-home mom.

Laura was a member of Augustana Lutheran Church in Sioux Falls and the First United Methodist Church where she taught and led Vacation Bible School.

Laura held many interests throughout her life including baking, riding her Spyder motorcycle (especially touring the Black Hills), watching wildlife at the nature preserve, watching baking programs, tending flowers, and particularly loved her pet cats.  Laura especially enjoyed spending time with her family and was a proud mother and grandmother.

Laura is survived by her husband, Allan Shumaker, of Brookings; son, Nicholas (Kayla) Shumaker, of Brookings; daughters: Amanda Shumaker, of Brookings, and Emily (Cory Smith) Shumaker-Smith, of Lake Benton; her mother, Barb Adams, of Brookings; her father, Larry Dreesman, of Sioux Falls; brother, Kevin Dreesman, of Lake Madison; grandchildren: Olivia, Nora, and Greta Shumaker; and many cousins.

She is preceded in death by her grandparents and maternal grandparents Robert and Dorothy Adams.

In lieu of flowers, the Shumaker family prefers memorial donations be made to the Brookings Regional Humane Society in Laura's memory.
