Lance Johnson, age 74, died Friday, June 5, 2015, at his home in Brookings. No services are planned by Lance's request. Memorials may be directed to the Brookings Hospice. Lance Douglas Johnson was born September 10, 1940, at Pipestone, Minnesota, to Glenn and Leona (Gruis) Johnson. He graduated from Pipestone High School in 1958, Winona State College in 1962, and he received his master's degree in Natural Sciences at the University of Idaho. On November 5, 1960, he married Marlys Klinsing at Pipestone. Lance taught in junior high and middle schools for 32 years at various locations, spending the last 26 years of his career at Bozeman, Montana. He was a devoted teacher whose desire was for his students to not only enjoy math, but also to instill in them a love and excitement for learning. He was a member of the Karl Marx/Cardinal Distributing Softball/Social Club in Bozeman. He was an avid gardener, golfer, and wood worker. Survivors include his wife, Marlys Johnson; daughter, Tara (Steve) Hietpas; grandchildren: Taylor, Aaron, Megan, and Annika Hietpas; a great-grandchild, Addison Shriver; brothers, Lane (Dot), Bruce (Sharalyn), and Craig (Jodi) Johnson; a sister, Mona (Greg) Anderson; and nieces and nephews; in-laws Marilyn Berreau, Helen Klinsing, Lois (Roger) Christensen, and Bill (Jan) Klinsing; dear friends Bill and Janet Long. He was preceded in death by his son Collin Glenn Johnson in 2004, and his parents.
