IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Kyle Gene
Nelson
March 29, 1962 – January 19, 2024
Kyle Nelson, longtime resident of LaBolt, South Dakota, died on January 19, 2024, at the Dougherty Hospice House in Sioux Falls. He was 61 years old. Kyle had currently been living in White, South Dakota before entering hospice.
Kyle Gene Nelson was born in Mitchell, SD on March 29, 1962, to Stanley and Eileen (Vanden Berge) Nelson. He attended LaBolt, Grant-Deuel, and Milbank schools, but did not graduate due to enlisting in the Coast Guard in 9th grade. Following his honorable discharge in 1979, he dedicated many years to helping his father at his mechanical shop in LaBolt.
In 1983, Kyle was united in marriage to Kandy Armstrong in Milbank, SD. To this marriage they had a son, Nathan. In 1989, he was united in marriage to Corinne Trewatha in Madison, SD, and to this marriage they added two daughters, Kara and Miranda.
Kyle held a variety of jobs, but he loved working at the print shop across the street from his house. He also truly loved working at Case IH in Milbank. He found his passion and opened his own business in LaBolt, where he offered lawn mowing service and small engine repair. He was a member of the LaBolt Covenant Church for many years. He was also a member of the online gaming group called the MwH Clan with his daughters being part of the group.
Kyle had many hobbies and interests, most notably archery, airplanes, raising house rabbits, building computers, and gardening. His children shared his passion for raising rabbits and building computers. He was known for his humor as he was quick with a smart-aleck comments and bottomless well of sarcasm. He deeply cared for his only grandchild, Kacie; they shared the same laughs and silly smiles. Before he became ill, he wished to go out to what he called "His Hills". His favorite food was his signature dish known as "Rabbit Food Salad", which required only lettuce that had been grown in the garden. His chili was also a family hit. Kyle also cherished his service dog, Tess.
Grateful for having shared in his life are his brother, Darryl Nelson of Brookings; his children, Nathan (Chelsea) Nelson of Sioux Falls; Kara (Ben) Cox of Brookings, and Miranda (Patrick) Anderson of Brookings; step-daughter, Michelle Scott of South Shore; granddaughter, Kacie Anderson of Brookings; and two aunts, Betty and Ruby.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Stanley and Eileen; aunts and uncles; and lifelong friend, Ove known as Norway MWH to Kyle.
There will be no funeral service at this time. A private burial will be held in the spring. Thanks to all who supported Kyle over the years.
