Kumud Saxena, M.D., died Wednesday, July 16, 2003, at the Brookings Hospital. Funeral services will be at 2:00 P.M. Sunday, July 20, 2003, at the Old Sanctuary, 4th St. & Medary Ave., in Brookings. Visitations will be from 3-6 P.M. Saturday at Eidsness Funeral Home and prior to services on Sunday at the Old Sanctuary. All memorials on her behalf will be donated to the Brookings Food Bank and charities in Meerut, UP, India. Kumud Saxena was born August 15, 1941 in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh (UP), India. She attended high school and college in Meerut and went on to medical school in Kanpur, UP, India from 1959-1964. After finishing medical school she practiced medicine in India until 1968, when she married Satish Saxena. They moved to England where she completed her training in obstetrics and gynecology. She returned to India in 1975 where she practiced obstetrics and gynecology until 1978, after which she relocated to Canada. In 1980, Kumud and her family moved to Brookings, SD. While taking a break from her medical practice, she remained active by taking classes in nutrition and working with students at SDSU. In 1990, she began training in neurology in Chicago, Il, and Tampa, Fl. She then returned to Brookings in 1995 to begin practicing in that field. Kumud had a vibrant, giving nature and will be missed by many. Kumud was a loving mother, wife and friend to many. She is survived by her husband Satish Saxena and her four children: Malinee Saxena of Minneapolis, Minnesota, Retu Saxena of Portland, Oregon, Nisha Saxena of Washington, D.C., and Surya Saxena of Washington, D.C. She also is survived by her two sisters, Padma and Maya of Meerut, India.
