Kristin "Kris" Hesby Hovey, age 53 of Brookings, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Saturday, January 25, 2020, at the Avera Heart Hospital in Sioux Falls. Funeral services will be 10:30 A.M. Thursday, January 30, 2020, at First Lutheran Church in Volga with burial to follow in the church cemetery.  Visitations will be 6-8:30 P.M. on Wednesday, January 29, 2020, with a time of sharing at 8:00 P.M. at Eidsness Funeral Home in Brookings.

Kristin "Kris" Alyce (Hesby) Hovey was born in Lake Preston, South Dakota on September 7, 1966 to Stan and Marilyn Hesby.  Kris attended school at Sioux Valley in Volga, South Dakota, where she grew up and graduated in 1985.  Kris enjoyed playing basketball and volleyball, and was in the Luther League and youth choir.

Kris went on to study retail and business merchandise in Fairbolt, Minnesota, where she graduated in 1986.  Kris then went on to live in Burnsville, Minnesota where she became a manager at Mothercare Clothing Store.  Returning to Brookings, South Dakota, Kris held positions at Larson's Manufacturing, Lewis Drug, and Econofoods.

In 1991 she married Rolf Hovey, and the couple had one daughter, Chantelle Sarah (Hovey) Williams in 1992.  Kris enjoyed swimming, visiting with friends, setting a beautiful table, online shopping, cooking, baking, watching movies that made her laugh, and especially spending time with her grandchildren.  Kris will be remembered as having a huge heart and a genuine love for people.

Survivors include her daughter, Chantelle (Brian) Williams; 3 grandchildren, Ayden, Jace, and Skyler; mother, Marilyn (Carlson) Hesby; brother, Keith (Sue) Hesby; 6 nieces and nephews: Kristina, Brad, Wes, Nick, Quinton, and Cody; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.

She is preceded in death by her father, Stan Hesby; grandparents: Edwin and Pearl Hesby, and Esther and Helmer Carlson.
