Kenneth J. Weinacht, age 64, died Tuesday, December 9, 2008, at his home near Volga, South Dakota. Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Saturday, December13, 2008, at First Lutheran Church in Volga, with interment in the Bergh Cemetery. Visitations will be from 6-8 P.M. Friday at Eidsness Funeral Chapel in Volga.
Kenneth Joseph Weinacht was born May 22, 1944, at Dell Rapids, South Dakota, to Michael and Catherine (Van Dam) Weinacht. He moved to Sioux Falls with his family when he was seven years old, where he attended Cathedral schools. He was in the first graduating class of O'Gorman High School in 1962. Ken joined the U.S. Marine Corps in 1962, and was stationed in California, Virginia, Hawaii, North Carolina, Florida, and Tennessee. On September 26, 1964, he married Jeraldine Tisdel in Sioux Falls. Ken retired from the Marine Corps in 1982, when he and Jerri returned to South Dakota. He worked at the Pamida store in Madison for over 20 years.
Ken was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Alexandria, Minnesota, and the American Legion Post in Arlington. As a lover of animals and nature, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, and especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife, Jerri Weinacht, of Volga, South Dakota; a daughter, Elise (Tim) West of Estelline, South Dakota; two sons: Rick (Keri) Weinacht of Volga, and Darian (Kay) Weinacht of El Paso, Texas; ten grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; a brother, Nick (Rhonda) Weinacht of Independence, Missouri; three sisters: Teresa (Winfred) Palmer of Estelline, Rita (Arland) Tisdel of Iona, Minnesota, and Kathleen Kreimann of Idaho Falls, Idaho; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers: Leonard, Harold, Michael, John, and Ronnie; and a nephew, Alan Tisdel.
