Kenneth R. Deen, age 83, of Brookings, died Wednesday, October 1, 2014, at the Neighborhoods at Brookview. Funeral services will be 1:30 P.M. Tuesday, October 7, 2014, at First United Methodist Church in Brookings, with interment in Greenwood Cemetery. Visitations will be 5-7 P.M. Monday at Eidsness Funeral Home in Brookings. Kenneth Ray Deen was born June 27, 1931, at Sioux City, Iowa, to Clarence Edward and Marjorie May (Stauffer) Deen. Kenny attended school in Iowa and graduated from high school in Onawa, Iowa. On May 24, 1950, he married Dorothy Anne Schlotman at Onawa. They moved to the Brookings area in 1951 and moved into Brookings in 1965. Kenny was employed at Joe Serie Mobil Oil, Sexauer Grain Elevator, and Farmer's Coop Elevator. He retired from Twin City Fan in 1996. Dorothy died May 12, 2000. Kenny was a member of First United Methodist Church in Brookings. He served as captain of the Brookings Police Department Reserve, and he was involved in the CASA program. He enjoyed fishing and woodworking. Survivors include his five children: Danny Deen of Brookings, Edward (Mary) Deen of Wenatchee, Washington, Phillip (Lisa) Deen of Afton, Missouri, Crystal (Kenneth) Frank of Brookings, and Timothy (Jodi) Deen of Volga; eighteen grandchildren; and nineteen great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and wife.
