Kay Blazey, age 80, died Sunday, November 18, 2007, at her residence in Brookings, South Dakota. Memorial services will be 10:00 A.M. Wednesday, November 21, 2007, at First United Methodist Church in Brookings. Interment will take place at a later date at Black Hills National Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the Charles and Kay Blazey Scholarship at SDSU. Kathryn Stevely Blazey was born December 7, 1926, at Barker, New York, She was raised by her grandparents, Hugh A. and Kate Stevely in Fairport, New York. She graduated from Fairport High School in 1944, and the Rochester Business Institute. On April 5, 1947, she married Charles H. Blazey at the Raymond Baptist Church in Fairport, New York. She worked as a secretary for Garlock, Inc. in Palmyra, New York from 1952 until 1957. The Blazeys moved to Brookings in 1965 and to Eugene, Oregon, in 1968, where Kay worked for the Eugene, Public Schools until 1970 when the family returned to Brookings. She was a secretary in the Agricultural Education Department at SDSU for several months and for the East Dakota Conservancy Sub-District from 1972 until 1984. Kay was a member of First United Methodist Church and Chapter P, P.E.O., and she was a Past Matron of the Palmyra Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star, and a Past President of the Brookings Area Chapter of AARP. She was serving as the treasurer of the Brookings Hospital Auxiliary. She enjoyed traveling, playing bridge, reading, and baking bread for her grandchildren. Survivors include her husband, Charles Blazey, of Brookings; four children: Michael (Jennifer) Blazey of LaHabre, California, Matthew Blazey of LaCrosse, Wisconsin, Gerald (Jean) Blazey of Elburn, Illinois, and Suzanne (George) Gunderson of Park Falls, Wisconsin; eight grandchildren; a brother, Robert OConnor, of Frisco, Texas; a sister, Patricia (Daniel) Dawidowicz, of Hanover, Maryland; and many nieces and nephews.
