Kathi Granum, 75, of Volga, passed away on Tuesday, September 20, 2022, at the Sanford USD Medical Center in Sioux Falls. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, September 27, 2022, at the First Lutheran Church in Volga at 10:30 A.M. Burial will immediately follow the service at the First Lutheran Cemetery in Volga. A time of visitation will be held the evening prior, Monday, September 26, 2022, at the Eidsness Funeral Chapel in Volga from 4:00 until 7:00 P.M. Eidsness Funeral Home is assisting the Granum family with arrangements.
Kathi Granum was born on December 28, 1946, to Donald and Dorothy (Russell) King in Redwood Falls, Minnesota. The family later moved to Brookings, South Dakota, where Kathi graduated from Brookings High School. She was united in marriage to Gerald Granum on June 21, 1964.
Kathi developed a love of writing early in her life and devoted most of her professional career as editor of the Volga Tribune and Arlington Sun. She also was a contributing writer to various other publications throughout the Midwest.
Kathi also worked for Swiftel Communications while continuing to freelance for the Volga Tribune.
Besides raising five children, in her "spare time", she enjoyed volunteering as a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA), and Beta Psi and Jaycyette board member. Kathi was an avid reader, a bowling enthusiast, and enjoyed quality time at her Lake Campbell home taking pontoon rides and winning the annual family bean bag tournament five years in a row with her son David.
Kathi also loved watching all her grandchildren's activities, particularly basketball. She will be remembered as an amazing wife, mother, and grandmother.
Kathi is survived by her husband, Gerald, of Volga; daughter, Lynn Grengs (Doug) of Brookings; sons: Gerry (Gina) of Tualatin, OR, Jamie (Teresa) of Volga, David (Angie) of Rochester, MN, and Darin (Karen) of Worthing, SD; 15 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren, and mother-in-law, Arlene Granum of Volga.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Donald and Dorothy King; father-in-law, Sylvan Granum; brother, Russ King; sister, Marlene West; sisters-in-law: Sally Roth and Pam Granum; and brothers-in-law: Dick Walter and Stan West.
