Obituary
Kassy Wipf, 83, of Brookings, died on Thursday, August 13, 2009, at the United Retirement Center. Funeral services will be 10:00 A.M. Monday, August 17 at Brookings Wesleyan Church, with interment at Greenwood Cemetery. Visitations will be from 5:00-8:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 16, at Eidsness Funeral Home in Brookings.
Kassy Susie (Walter) Wipf, daughter of David and Anna (Glanzer) Walter was born on November 16, 1925, near Carpenter, South Dakota. She grew up on a farm there with her 11 siblings, attending a country school and a country church. Her dad died when she was five years old and she and her brothers and sisters worked hard to keep the farm going. After graduating from Huron High School with a teaching certificate she taught in a country school in Beadle County for five years. She married Leonard J. Wipf on October 18, 1946, and they had five children. Later in life she had an in-home daycare for many years and worked at K-mart.
Kassy was a long-time member of Brookings First Assembly of God where she served in various roles including nursery class teacher, womens ministries director and West of 55 director. She served faithfully in those roles and many others, giving her time and energy to do whatever was needed. Kassy accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Savior at a young age and lived for Him all her life. She loved reading her Bible and praying, watching the Gaither Homecoming videos, reading, visiting with friends, baking and spending time with her family.
Survivors include her children: Ron (Elaine) Wipf of Maple Plain, Minnesota; Randy Wipf of Irving, Texas; Roger (Kathy) Wipf of Park Ridge, Illinois; Renee (David) Mann of Ashland, Ohio; Rick Wipf of Brookings; one granddaughter; five grandsons; one sister, Tilly (Ivan) Walz of Huron; one brother, Milt (Marilyn) Walter of Rapid City; nieces and nephews; and one sister in law. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Leonard in 1998; five sisters: Adina, Evelyn, Elma, Elizabeth, and Regina; and four brothers: Johnny, Orville, Benny, and Eldon.
