Karen Hammond, age 68, of Volga, passed away peacefully at her home on Tuesday, July 5, 2022.  Memorial services will be 2:00 P.M. on Monday, July 11, 2022, at Eidsness Funeral Home in Brookings.  Visitation will be from 12:30 P.M. until the time of the service on Monday.  Burial will follow at South Lake Campbell Lutheran Cemetery.

Karen Michelle Hammond was born on July 9, 1953, in Harvey, North Dakota, to Leo and Regina (Schneider) Wentz.  She graduated from Maddock High School in Maddock North Dakota.  While working at 3M Manufacturing in Brookings, South Dakota, Karen met Rick Hammond, and the couple later married on January 19, 1990.

Throughout her life, Karen held many interests including being an avid hunter, fisherwoman, and riding motorcycles.  Karen and Rick loved to travel extensively to fish in many different bodies of water.  She also enjoyed playing golf.  Later in her life, she took great pride in creating her own private sanctuary at the home that she shared with Rick.  Karen loved sitting on her deck and taking solace in nature, particularly the hummingbirds, gold finches, and other birds that visited her many feeders.  Above all, the greatest joy in Karen's life was being a grandma to her grandchildren.

Karen is survived by her husband of 32 years, Rick Hammond, of Volga; daughter, Stephanie Jacoves, of Minneapolis, MN, and her children: Jack and Abbie; step-daugther, Nichole Hammond, of Brookings, SD, and her children: Sophia, Maddie, and Emmitt; her siblings: LeAnn Wentz, of Palestine, TX, Renee (Larry) Strand, of Ham Lake, MN, Sheila Enderle, of Hillsboro, TX, Leo (Michelle) Wentz, of Trophy Club, TX, Mickey Wentz, of Dallas, TX, Mike Wentz, of Dallas, TX, Rhonda (Lyle) Knudson, of Casper, WY, Kristy Farley, of Cordova, TN, and Carol (Manuel Piedra) Wentz, of Dallas, TX; and several nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Leo and Regina Wentz.
