Julie Ann Hallan was born on June 27, 1953, to Donald and Alvina (Littau) Evans in Burke, South Dakota, living on farms near Gregory, SD until 1957, when the family relocated to Riverton, WY. In 1958, the family moved to Casper, WY until the summer of 1964, when they spent a year in Winner, SD. From 1965 until the summer of 1967, the family lived in Igloo, SD, and from 1967 until 1973, lived in Edgemont, SD. She attained her education at Edgemont High School, later attending Black Hills State University for 2 years. Following her graduation, Julie lived from 1973 until 1987 in Thermopolis, WY. On June 21st, 1986, she was united in marriage to Wayne Hallan at Thermopolis. The couple soon moved to Worland, WY, later moving to Spearfish, SD until 2013. In 2013, the couple made their final move to Brookings, SD, where Julie lived until her passing.
In her younger years, Julie worked in banking for several years before being hired with Sharkey Plumbing in Spearfish where she continued to work for over 20 years as an office secretary. Julie was a member of Peace Lutheran Church in Brookings, SD, and Grace Lutheran Church in Deadwood, SD. She will be remembered as having a very strong sense of faith.
Julie had many hobbies including crocheting blankets on cold winter evenings, bowling, and watching birds at the various feeders that she had around her home. She loved connecting with her family and friends on Facebook, as well as her bi-weekly Zoom meetings with her cousins. Julie had a major interest in music, including band and chorus. Julie played violin in her younger years while living in Casper, also playing in band during her time in Igloo and Edgemont. Initially, Julie was a music major at BHSC for two years before pursuing veterinary technician studies. Julie also loved her pets, but perhaps her greatest joy in live was watching her grandchildren grow.
Julie is survived by her husband, Wayne Hallan; her sons: Scott (Selina) Hallan and Patrick (Jennifer) Hallan; grandchildren: Madilynn Hallan, Jonah Hallan, Shelby Hallan, Elias Hallan, and Lainey Hallan; and her brother, Pete (Bridgette) Evans.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Donald and Alvina (Littau) Evans; her many beloved in-laws; and twin siblings who died at birth.
