Josephine Josie I. Knutson, age 92, of Volga, died Saturday, April 24, 2004, at the United Retirement Center in Brookings, South Dakota. Funeral services will be 10:30 A.M. Tuesday, April 27, 2004, at First Lutheran Church in Volga, with interment in the church cemetery. Visitations will be from 5-8 P.M. Monday at Eidsness Funeral Chapel in Volga. Josephine Josie Irene (Waage) Knutson was born April 17, 1912, in Fulton, South Dakota, to John and Ida (Wicks) Waage. Her father farmed south of Volga, and she attended country school west of Sinai. Josie lived in Volga with the family of Tena Garrison while she attended Volga High School and graduated in 1928. On February 23, 1933, she married Otis Knutson at Volga, South Dakota. Josie and Otis farmed near Volga. Josie was a member of First Lutheran Church where she was an active Sunday School teacher for many years as well as busy in church circle and quilting. She enjoyed crocheting, quilting and sewing. Survivors include Survivors include her three sons: Otis, Jr. (Helen), Curtis (Doris), and Dale (Jean) Knutson, all of Volga, one daughter-in-law, Cecelia Knutson of Decatur, Nebraska; 17 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Otis Sr., in 1996; a son, Allan; six brothers; and four sisters.
