Obituary

Josephine E. Frank, 81, died Tuesday, January 13, 2004, at the United Retirement Center in Brookings, South Dakota. Visitations will be 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. Friday evening with a prayer service at 6:30 P.M. at Eidsness Funeral Home. Memorial services will be Saturday, January 17, at 2:00P.M. at St. Thomas More Catholic Parish in Brookings with interment at Greenwood Cemetery. Josephine E. Frank was born January 22, 1922, in Minnesota to Harry and Lucie (Joyer) Leighton. She grew up in Elk River, Minnesota. She attended the Bartron School of Nursing in Watertown in 1944 and received her nursing diploma. She later attended the University of Maryland and received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 1951. Josephine was the night supervisor at Brookings Hospital for ten years and was an instructor at SDSU for six years. She was a member of the South Dakota Nurses Association and the American Nursing Association. She was a member of St. Thomas More Catholic Parish. She enjoyed doing needlepoint in her free time. Josephine married John E. Frank on September 18, 1948 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He died August 14, 1980. Survivors include her three children: John of Torrance, California, Melanie Isakson of Plymouth, Minnesota, and Victoria (Keith) Anderson of Golden Valley, Minnesota; five grandchildren: Chelsea Frank, Stephen and Matthew Isakson, and Phillip and Peter Anderson; two brothers: Alver (Jean) Leighton of St. Cloud, Minnesota, and Russell (Jeanne) Leighton of Minneapolis, Minnesota; and a sister, Mary Lou (John) Ford of Cincinnati, Ohio. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and a son-in-law, Robert Isakson.
