Joseph F. Krier, age 62, of Brookings, died Thursday, February 24, 2005, at Avera-McKennan Hospice in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Funeral Mass will be 10:00 A.M. Monday, February 28, 2005, at St. Thomas More Catholic Church in Brookings, with interment in Greenwood Cemetery. Visitations will be from 2-8 P.M. Sunday at Eidsness Funeral Home in Brookings, with the family present from 6-8 P.M. A wake service will be held at 7:00 P.M. Joseph F. Krier was born May 27, 1942, near Colman, South Dakota, to Leavern and Irene (Achen) Krier. He attended schools in the Dell Rapids area, graduating in 1960 from St. Marys High School in Dell Rapids. He was a member of the South Dakota Air National Guard in Sioux Falls from 1960 until 1966. On April 22, 1961, he married Sharon Nordland at Dell Rapids. In the early years of their marriage, the Kriers lived in Trent, Pipestone, and Garretson. They moved to Brookings in May of 1970. Joe worked for the Brookings Telephone Company (Swiftel) for 35 years. Survivors include his wife of 43 years, Sharon, of Brookings; four daughters: Theresa (Mike) Bennett of Brookings, Joan (Dan) Nelson of Circle Pines, Minnesota, Valerie (Tom) Laier of Blaine, Minnesota, and Wendy (Greg) Long of Boone, Iowa; two sons: Thomas (Patrice) Krier of Mesa, Arizona, and John (Nicole) Krier of Minneapolis, Minnesota; three brothers: Jerome (Donna) Krier of Fairbanks, Alaska, Arthur Krier of St. Louis, Missouri, and Andrew (Marilyn) Krier of Alta, Iowa; a sister, Carol (Bill) Manners of Edina, Minnesota; and several nieces and nephews. The love and joy of his life were his 12 beautiful grandchildren and six step-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and a son, James, in 1986.
