John W. Stark, age 62, died Sunday, July 11, 2004, at his home in Brookings, South Dakota. Funeral services will be 10:00 A.M. Wednesday, July 14, 2004, at Lake Campbell Lutheran Church. Visitations will be from 4-8 P.M. Tuesday at Eidsness Funeral Home in Brookings, South Dakota. Memorials may be directed to Lake Campbell Lutheran Church or the American Heart Association. John William Stark was born April 20, 1942, at Owatonna, Minnesota, to Carl William and Susannah Mary (McMartin) Stark. He was raised on a farm and active in 4H. He played football in high school and at Luther College in Iowa. He received a B.A. degree in physical education. On August 30, 1964, John married Lynne Boller at Decorah, Iowa. He began his work career with UPS, and later held personnel positions with various companies. In 1981, John and his family moved to Brookings where he was the personnel director for the Coast to Coast warehouse. As the company underwent changes he became the director of distribution. He retired in June 2002. In 1976, John received an award from the City of Brooklyn Park, Minnesota, for saving the life of a ten-year-old boy. He was a member of Lake Campbell Lutheran Church, and served as president of the Brookings Rotary Club. He was involved in Junior Achievement coached several little league sports. He enjoyed following high school and college sports, especially those activities which involved his children and grandchildren. Survivors include his wife, Lynne, of Brookings; four children: Chad (Jennifer) Stark and their children Madison, Chelsey, and Madeline, of Fargo, North Dakota, Christopher (Bridgett) Stark and their children Otto and Gretta of Carlyle, Illinois, Susan (Scott) Gehring and their children Weston and Olivia of Brookings, South Dakota; and Michael Stark of Eugene, Oregon; and a brother, Eugene (Carol) Stark, of Miltona, Minnesota. He was preceded in death by his parents.
