Obituary

John Seidl, age 57, of rural Volga, passed away Monday, July 28, 2014, at Dougherty Hospice House in Sioux Falls, surrounded by family. Memorial services will be held 3:00 p.m. Friday, August 1, 2014, at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Brookings. Visitations will be from 4-7 p.m. Thursday at Our Savior Lutheran Church. Memorials may be given to Great Plains Lutheran High School, 1200 Luther Lane NE, Watertown, South Dakota 57201. John Henry Seidl was born February 21, 1957, in Beaver Dam, Wisconsin, the first of four children to Ursel and Barbara (Braaz) Seidl. John was baptized at St. Matthew's Lutheran Church, Iron Ridge, Wisconsin on March 17, 1957 and confirmed at St. Andrew's Lutheran Church, St. Paul Park, Minnesota on May 30, 1971. He graduated from St. Croix Lutheran High School in St Paul, Minnesota in 1975 and attended a vo-tech in St Paul. He has been employed in building maintenance at locations in Wisconsin and South Dakota, and for the past 15 years, at South Dakota State University in Brookings, South Dakota. On June 26, 1982, he was united in marriage to Ris Rabenberg in Mobridge, South Dakota. They lived in Brownsville, Wisconsin, Mobridge, South Dakota, Jefferson, Wisconsin and most recently, on an acreage west of Volga, South Dakota. They have been blessed with 5 children and 3 grandchildren with 2 more expected. John enjoyed life at home, gardening, fixing cars and especially being with family at The Lake in northern Wisconsin. He was active in his church in Brookings and with Great Plains Lutheran High School, in Watertown, South Dakota. Survivors include his wife, Ris Seidl of Volga; five children: Naomi (Lindsey) Johnson of Gibbon, Minnesota; Laura Seidl of Brookings, South Dakota; Anna (Keith) Johnson of Gibbon, Minnesota; Karl Seidl of Brookings, South Dakota; James Seidl of Watertown, South Dakota; five grandchildren: Felicity, Julie, Oliver, Baby Johnson due September 2014, and Baby Johnson due December 2014; his father and mother, Ursel and Barbara Seidl of Brookings, South Dakota; three siblings: Beverly (Lew) Rabenberg of Austin, Texas; Ellen (Steve) Teter of Arapahoe, Nebraska; Tom (Becki) Seidl of Elizabeth, Colorado; and nieces, nephews and in-laws. He was preceded in death by his grandparents and his Uncle Henry.
