Johanna H. Statema, age 93, of Volga, died Sunday, September 6, 2009, at the Brookings Hospital. Funeral services will be 10:30 A.M. Wednesday, September 9, 2009, at the Volga Christian Reformed Church, with interment in Trinity Cemetery. Visitations will be from 5-8 P.M. Tuesday at Eidsness Funeral Chapel in Volga.
Johanna H. (Algra) Statema was born February 23, 1916, near Volga, South Dakota, to Thomas and Sadie (Smol) Algra. She attended country school near Volga, and on February 14, 1939, married John Statema at Volga. The couple farmed northwest of Volga, and Johanna worked at the Parkview Rest Home for several years. John died August 12, 1975.
Johanna was a member of the Volga Christian Reformed Church and the Dorcas Ladies Aid.
Survivors include three children: Thelma (Irvin) Boer of Denver, Colorado, Raymond (Alma) Statema of Jenison, Michigan, and Lorraine (Larry) Brandes of Orange City, Iowa; four grandchildren: Randy Boer, Stephanie (Eric) Den Braber, Chanda (Miles) Keehr, and Cody Brandes; three great-grandsons: Micah and Isaac Den Braber, and Kyler Keehr; a sister-in-law, Anna Richmond; two brothers-in-law, Arnold Van Maanen and Jim Zuiderhof; and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband; brother, Alfred; and sisters, Effie, Sadie, Dena, and Jennie.
