Johanna Lengkeek, age 103, of Volga, died Friday, August 17, 2012, at Brookview Manor in Brookings. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, August 24, at the Volga Christian Reformed Church, with interment in Trinity Cemetery. Visitations will be from 6-8 p.m. Thursday at Eidsness Funeral Chapel in Volga. Johanna Lengkeek was born March 29, 1909, on the family farm near Volga, South Dakota, to Kryn and Gertie (Meyer) Lengkeek. She attended District 76 country school. She worked faithfully on the farm and did housework and cleaning for many area families for a dollar a day. She lived on the farm until 1981 when she and her sisters Hilda and Gertrude moved into Volga, where she lived until moving to Brookview Manor in July 2008. Johanna was a member of the Volga Christian Reformed Church. She enjoyed gardening and flowers, and doing fancywork. Survivors include many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers: Henry, Gerrit, and Peter; and three sisters: Gertrude, Hilda, and Magdalena Int Veld.
