Jodi Lynn Peterson was born on January 1, 1959, to Lloyd “Snook” and Jean (Huisenga) Peterson in Watertown, South Dakota. She was the town’s first baby of the year and was the star of many newspaper headlines. The family lived in Garden City and then Clark, where she attended school from kindergarten through her sophomore year. They later moved to Milbank, where she finished high school, graduating in 1977. Throughout her childhood, Jodi was close to her family, especially her cousins and grandparents. Her children heard countless stories of the fun times she had growing up with two little brothers.
Jodi graduated from Stewart School of Hairstyling in Aberdeen in 1978. She worked in salons in Spearfish and Milbank until she moved to Madison to attend Dakota State College. She graduated in 1984 with a degree in Social Services and spent the next couple of years working at the Redfield State School.
Jodi reunited with her childhood neighbor, Robert (Bob) Audus, in 1985. She joined him and his four children, Dawn, Wendy, John, and Shelly, in Florida. The couple married on April 26, 1986 at Patrick Air Force Base. Together they added Hannah and Amber to the family. They lived in Florida until Bob retired from the Air Force due to health reasons in 1991. That same year, the family moved back to White, SD to be closer to family. Jodi and Bob were known for their laid-back nature and always provided a comfortable, relaxing place for their family to come home to.
While living in White, Jodi held jobs in home healthcare and at Maynard’s grocery store. Most recently, she worked in housekeeping and laundry at White Healthcare Center, Brookings Health System, and The Neighborhoods. She enjoyed these jobs more than most people would, and her kids made fun of her love for laundry and ironing. After Bob’s passing in 2019, Jodi continued to work hard until she was unable to. She retired in 2021 due to her failing health. She then moved to Sioux Falls to be closer to Hannah and her healthcare providers.
Jodi’s interests included baking, word and jigsaw puzzles, reading, coloring, growing plants, needle point, and crocheting. She had a special love for doing crafts and collecting antiques and Barbies. She also enjoyed vintage cars and oldies music, especially Elvis. Though she only worked in salons for a short time, she continued to cut and style hair for family members and friends throughout her life. Her daughters never let her forget the perms she gave them in the 90’s! Jodi was always known as the one who remembered everything, especially birthdays and anniversaries. In recent years, she enjoyed watching Hallmark movies and never lost her love for treats, especially chocolate and coffee! What she enjoyed most was visits from her family and their dogs. Her unique sense of humor remained, even when she had lost most of her other abilities.
Jodi is survived by her five daughters, Dawn (Keith) Krier of Hendricks, MN, Wendy Resmen of Litchfield, MN, Shelly (Jason) Rogers of Victoria, MN, Hannah Audus of Tea, and Amber (Cody) Hansen of Slayton, MN; six grandchildren, Cody (Jessica) Resmen, Cassidy (Chad) Johnson, Ciarra Resmen (Dalton Idso), Cooper Rogers, Lyra Hansen, and Titan Hansen; five great grandchildren, Violet, Sonny, and Daniel Resmen, Braxton and Beau Johnson. She is also survived by two brothers, Chris Peterson of Brookings and Daren (Deb) Peterson of Twin Brooks; Bob’s siblings, Ken (Cheryl) Audus of Lawrence, KS, Patti Lien of Watertown, and Jeff (Sharon) Audus of LeSueur, MN; and many other extended family, friends, and grand-dogs.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Bob; son, John Audus; her parents and grandparents; Bob’s parents, Walt and Arlene Audus; brother-in-law, Bruce Lien; and her many beloved family pets.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to Synergy HomeCare and Dougherty Hospice House for the outstanding friendship, love, and care that Jodi received in her last year of life.
