Jo Ann (Kurtz) Meyer, 90 of Brookings passed away peacefully on April 8, 2023 in hospice at the Neighborhoods at Brookview. Willis Meyer, 92, of Brookings, passed away on March 8, 2024, at The Neighborhoods at Brookview in Brookings. Services for both Willis and his beloved wife, Jo Ann will be held on Friday, June 21, 2024, with a time of visitation being held from 2:00 until 3:30 p.m. at Eidsness Funeral Chapel in White, SD. A prayer service will be held at 3:30 p.m. at the chapel, and burial will immediately follow at Fairview Cemetery in White.
Jo was born on November 18, 1932, the daughter of Fred E. & Florance (Newton) Kurtz. She grew up on the family farm in rural White where she received her education and graduated from White High School in 1950.
She was united in marriage to Willis E. Meyer on December 27, 1950 and to their union three sons were born. They were married 72 years.
Jo was a full time homemaker while the boys were young. Once they were grown she started working at Brost's Clothing Store and later at South Dakota State University food service.
Jo was a master quilter, and belonged to the Brookings Quilt Guild. She spent many hours making quilts for her sons, grandchildren, & great grandchildren which they will forever treasure. Over the years Jo enjoyed making numerous quilts for charity, gardening, baking, decorating, many other crafts and spending time with her family.
Jo is survived by her husband Willis Meyer, three sons Steven (Sally) of Manhattan, KS, Kent (Kathy) of Kaspelli, MT, and Craig (Coralie) of Wellington, CO, four grandchildren Stephanie (John) Henton of Leonardville, KS, Emily Meyer of
Zephyrhills, FL. Nicholas (Tiara) Meyer of South Lake Tahoe, CA and Courtnie (Meyer) Johnson of Fort Collins, CO. and nine great grandchildren Braydon, Trenton, Bailey, Kenzie, Bryce, Dallas, Belle, Elijah, & Emerson.
Sisters Leslie Farris, Doreen Smith, & brother Wallace Kurtz & several nieces & nephews.
Preceded in death by her parents, and siblings Curtis Kurtz, Kendall Kurtz, Fred Kurtz, & Elta Woodard.
