Jerald Wayne Andersen, 78, died Wednesday, July 23, 2008 at Brookview Manor in Brookings. Funeral services are at 10:30 am, Saturday, July 26, at the United Church of Christ in Brookings with Father Mike Wensing officiating. Burial will be 1:00 pm at the Elkton City Cemetery. Visitation is from 5-8 pm Friday at Eidsness Funeral Home in Brookings. Jerald Wayne Andersen was born on November 9th, 1929 in Dell Rapids, South Dakota, the son of Andrew and Clara (Rusten) Andersen. Jerald received his education in Elkton and served in the military during the Korean war. After the war, he farmed, catered and did carpentry work in the Elkton area for many years. He shared his lifelong passion of hunting and fishing with his children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, nephews and friends. During his retirement years he enjoyed spending time with his many friends at HyVee. He is a member of United Church of Christ. Jerald married Helen Bain in 1951. To this union 4 children were born. He is survived by his wife, Helen; children, Debra ( Leslie) Burlage of Elkton, Viva (Charlie) Alberts of Brookings, Dean (Maureen) Andersen of Otsego, MN; daughter-in-law, Candace Rochel and good friend Bob Thompson; 12 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; one sister Joyce Becker of Oldham; one brother, Dennis (Rea) Andersen of Owatanna, MN. He is preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Jules and one son, Dan and two grandchildren. His memory will live on in our hearts.
