Jereme Knutson, one of Volga's long-time residents, passed from this life on Monday, November 9, 2015, at the Brookings Hospital enveloped by love and support of family and friends in his final days. He was 39 years old. Diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in October 2014, Jereme underwent treatments and was able to hold it at bay to enjoy more time with those he cherished and activities he enjoyed. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:00 a.m. Friday, November 13, 2015, at St. Thomas More Catholic Parish with burial to follow in St. Thomas More Catholic Cemetery. Visitations will be 4-7 p.m. Thursday with a prayer service at 7 p.m. at Eidsness Funeral Home in Brookings. Jereme James Knutson was born July 16, 1976, to James and Carrie (Wooten) Knutson in Brookings, SD. He lived on an acreage near Arlington, SD until January of 1986. At that time, his family relocated to Volga. Jereme graduated from Sioux Valley High School in 1995. After graduation, Jereme worked on a mink farm near Arlington until September 2007. He than began working for V.J. Ahlers Excavating and worked there until the time of his death. Hunting, fishing, and car racing where a huge part of Jereme's life. He loved the outdoors and everything it had to offer. Jereme was a pro at meat cutting and processing. He defined the word outdoorsman. Jereme spent all of his free time enjoying his passions. He spent hours on Oakwood Lake, either on the water or on the ice. He enjoyed hanging out at Don's Auto Body and truly loved giving his nieces and nephews a bad time. Jereme joined the Volga Volunteer Fire Department in 2003, and was an active member until the time of his death. He was a loving son, brother, uncle, and friend. Jereme was always willing to help. He was truly a great friend to all who knew him. Survivors include his father, James Knutson of Volga; sister, Jama (Steve) Hanson of Brookings; brother, Jared (Kari) Knutson of Volga; grandfather, Charles Wooten; nieces and nephews: Devon and Breanna Jensen, Jada, and Skylar Knutson, and Zadie and James Hanson; numerous aunts; uncles; cousins; and friends. He was preceded in death by his mother, Carrie in 2013 and his grandparents.
