Jeffrey Schuyler Boulware, of Brookings, passed away from cancer on Friday, May 22, 2015, at the Sanford USD Medical Center in Sioux Falls. He was 63. Jeff was born in Miles City, MT on January 1, 1952, the son of James William and Marjorie (Pelissier) Boulware. Jeff grew up on the family's cattle ranch, attending country school, and as a youth was captivated by the idea of someday learning to fly. In 1970 he graduated from Custer County High School in Miles City, and graduated from Montana State University in Bozeman, MT, in 1974. In 1975, Jeff joined the United States Air Force, serving for 26 years as a B-52 bomber pilot, and was stationed at several bases throughout the United States and Saudi Arabia. He once altered the course of his B-52 during a routine training mission and buzzed the giant eight-engine plane low over his hometown of Miles City, to the delight of locals and irritation of his superiors. After 4,000 hours as a command pilotand serving as Detachment Commander of AFROTC at South Dakota State University in Brookings,he retired in 2001 as a Colonel. He then became a professor of Aviation Education at SDSU, where he taught and inspired students until retiring in 2014 with the distinction of Professor Emeritus. He was an avid and expert pilot, and owned several planes throughout his life, including a fully restored Nanchang CJ-6 warbird. Jeff is survived by his wife, Holly Teresa (Haug) Boulware of Brookings; his sons Erik Jeffrey Boulware and Thomas Robert Boulware of Brookings;William Schuyler (Alicia) Boulware andJonathan (Candice) Wiley Boulware of Orlando, FL; a sister Jimi Lou (Gary) Woodard of Weatherford, TX; a brother John "Jack" (Christie) Boulware of San Francisco, CA; and one grandson, Radical Boulware. He was preceded in death by his mother Marjorie in 2003, and his father James William in 2009. Family will receive friends onMonday, May 25, 2015 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.at Eidsness Funeral Home, 1617 Orchard Dr. in Brookings, SD. Funeral services will be held onTuesday, May 26, 2015 at 10:30 a.m.at First United Methodist Church, 625 5thSt. Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery.In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to establish a Jeffrey Boulware aviation scholarship at SDSU.
