Jean W. Janssen, age 86, of Elkton, died Thursday, March 1, 2012, at the Avera Heart Hospital in Sioux Falls. Funeral services will be 10:30 A.M. Saturday, March 3, 2012, at the Elkton Community Center, with interment in Greenhill Cemetery at Alexandria, South Dakota. Visitations will be from 4-7 P.M. Friday at the Eidsness-Zink Funeral Chapel in Elkton. Jean W. (Johnson) was born December 16, 1925, at Allendorf, Iowa, to Victor and Mary (Lutterman) Johnson. She attended country schools near Allendorf and Ocheydan, Iowa, and she graduated from Sibley High School. She attended Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls. She first taught country school and then in Allendorf. On May 15, 1948, she married Clinton "Bub" Twamley at Allendorf. She worked for K-Mart, Shrivers, Sears, and the McKennan Hospital Café, all in Sioux Falls. After Bub's passing, Jean married Marshall R. "Bud" Janssen on June 6, 1980, at Sioux Falls. The couple made their home in Elkton, where Jean was involved in the American Legion Auxiliary and a member of the United Parish. While in Sioux Falls, Jean was a member of the V.F.W. Auxiliary, and she served as secretary for two bowling leagues. She held every office but president in the Sioux Falls P.T.A., and she was a Cub Scout Leader for seven years. Her special interests included reading, bowling, and displaying many lawn animals. Survivors include five children: James (Linda) Twamley of Parker, Peggy (Neal) Brouwer, of Hills, Minnesota, Roger Twamley of Parker, Victor (Liz) Twamley of Oacoma, Shelley (Terry) Yockey of Elkton; five step-children: Jean Gomer, of White, Marshall Janssen, Jr., of Elkton, Barbara (Douglas) Poss, of White, Margaret Janssen, of Brookings, and Joan (Tabb) McCluskey, of Hendricks, Minnesota; 21 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and a sister: Mavis Christians of Balaton, Minnesota. She was preceded in death by her two husbands; two brothers, Eldon and Duane; two sisters, Lorna and Donna; and a step-brother.
