Janice Westphal, age 83, of Brookings and formerly of Kasson, MN, passed away on Saturday, December 9, 2023.  Visitation will begin at 10:00 A.M. with a Celebration of Life starting at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, December 16th at First Baptist Church of Kasson (304 4th Street NW, Kasson, MN).  Eidsness Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements in South Dakota.

Janice was born on January 7, 1940, to Benjamin and Phyllis (Korus) Eblen in Austin, MN.  She attended country school and graduated from Austin High School in 1958.  On January 25, 1959, Janice married Eugene Westphal.  They moved to Kasson in 1963, and just recently moved to Brookings, SD, to be close to family.

Janice worked as a Pharmacy Tech at Shopko.  She was a member of First Baptist Church in Kasson and served in the Ladies Aid.  She will be remembered for baking, especially her caramels at Christmas.

Survivors include her husband, Eugene; son, Terry (Carol) of Fort Wayne, IN; daughter, Deb (Jeff) Meyer of Brookings, SD; daughters-in-law, Sara Westphal and Jessica Westphal of Kasson; sisters, Anita (Bruce) Baudler of AZ, Carole Heikes of Hutchinson, MN, and Joanne (Rich) Bentley of AZ; grandchildren: Jeremy (Amy) Meyer, Lucas (Jessica) Meyer, Jordan (Lisa) Meyer, Madison Westphal, Krysta (Tyler) Johnson, Lauren (Cole) Marshall, Chase (Christina) Westphal, Nicholas Westphal, and Oliver Westphal; and 21 great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her parents; two sons, Mark and Christopher; and two grandchildren, Nathan and Amanda Westphal.
