Janice Hauge Embry, age 85, of Brookings, died Wednesday, December 17, 2014, at The Neighborhoods at Brookview. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, December 22, 2014, at First Lutheran Church in Brookings, with interment in the church cemetery. Visitations will be from 4-6 P.M. Sunday at Eidsness Funeral Home, with an Order of Eastern Star service at 6:00 P.M. Katherine Janice (Perdue) Embry Hauge was born August 7, 1929, at Atchison, Kansas, to Edward and Geneva (Pitman) Perdue. She grew up in Kansas and also lived with her family in Vermont and New York. She graduated from high school in Huron, Kansas, in 1947. On September 3, 1950, she married Ted Hauge in Greeley, Colorado. Janice received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Art Education at SDSU in 1972. She was employed as a substitute teacher and as a secretary to the Athletic Director at SDSU from 1974 until 1985. Ted died June 18, 1988. She married Lawrence Embry May 16, 1993, at Brookings. He died November 9, 1997. Janice was a member of First Lutheran Church and had been a Sunday school teacher and involved in Circle. She was a member of Brookings Chapter No. 15 of the Order of The Eastern Star. She enjoyed reading, art, music, exercise, and gardening. Survivors include two sons: Dennis Hauge of Garden Grove, California, and Steve Hauge of Fargo, North Dakota; three grandchildren: Luke, Liesel, and Eden Hauge; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands; a son, Mel Hauge; two sisters: Dorothy and Jean; two brothers: Eddie and Charles; and a daughter-in-law, Audrey.
