Janet Rae Wilson was born on July 27, 1939, to Virgil C. and Leah Mae (Hirzel) Wilson in Aberdeen, South Dakota. In Janet's early work days she worked at Mountain Bell, Riddles Oil Company, and Broomfield VFW, all in Colorado. Upon returning back to Brookings, Janet worked at South Dakota State University, retiring early due to an Alzheimer's diagnosis after 30 years with the college. She also volunteered for many years with the Brookings Hospital Auxiliary.
Janet was known to most for being a daughter , sister, mom, grandma, great grandma, aunt, great friend, dog mom and dog gramma. She was loyal to anyone and everyone she had in her life. She was funny, witty, annoying, lovable, loved, the counties best story teller/embellisher/exaggerater, loved reading many books at a time, listening to the same song a million times, couponing was her thing, if she had one, no matter what it was she bought it, talking on the phone to whomever would listen, for hours. Lastly, she was a foodie through and through! She LOVED popcorn, hoarding snacks, the Zesto's, so much that 26 years ago they named an Avalanche after her and her grandsons, The famous Wilson (if you haven't tried it, please do).
Janet will always be remembered for loving her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren-they truly were her heart and soul.
Janet is survived by her children: Heidi (Doug) Solberg, Neal (Debra) Hirzel, and Alicia (Wade) Price; her grandchildren: Joshua (Brittanny) Houy, Jessica Belille, Ashley Solberg, Kathryn (Joe) Banacci, Justin Price, and Jamin Price; and her great-grandchildren: McKenna Harron, Quinn Cooper, Daxton Houy, Ryot Katcher, Taysa Katcher, Annalyse Belille, Evyanna Belille, and Jacob Bonacci.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Virgil and Leah Mae Wilson; and her brother, Curtis Wilson.
