Jan was born on July 9, 1949 in Kingsbury County, the daughter of Donald and Mavis (Lee) Johnson. She lived with her family in Arlington, SD until she married the love of her life, Richard (Dick) Anderson, on July 10, 1965. She attended beauty school in 1971, and in 1978 purchased the Carousel, a local beauty salon. For 38 years she enjoyed owning her salon and being a mentor to hundreds of beautifully talented women that worked for her and who she called her second family.
The brightest light of her life was raising her 2 children, Shelly and Scott, and welcoming her 'boys' which included 4 grandsons and 1 great grandson. Jan loved to crochet, do Scott's laundry, and mow the lawn. Jan was an amazing cook and is known for making the BEST monster cookies! Jan had a heart of gold and was so generous and kind to everyone and she especially had the biggest heart for all kids.
Survivors include her husband, Dick of Brookings; her children, Shelly Anderson of Denver and Scott Anderson (Rachelle) of Brookings; 4 grandsons, Derek Arcellano and Nicholas Gruber, Maxx and Myles Anderson; 1 great-grandson, Ashton Arcellano; 3 sisters, Delaine Dahm, LouAnn Christensen, and Kim Kneip; 2 brothers, Lowell "Tramp" (Kathy) Johnson and Doyle (Debbie) Johnson.
