M. James Lorden, age 87, of Elkton, died Friday, December 21, 2007, at Brookview Manor in Brookings, South Dakota. Funeral Mass will be 10:00 A.M. Monday, December 24, 2007, at Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church in Elkton, with interment at St. Marys Catholic Cemetery in Elkton. Visitations will be 6-7 P.M. Sunday at Eidsness-Zink Funeral Chapel in Elkton with a prayer service at 7 P.M. Mervin James Lorden was born May 14, 1920, on the family farm in Richland Township in Brookings County, South Dakota, to Charles Joseph and Mary (Zahrobsky) Lorden. The farm was homesteaded by his grandparents, Dennis and Johanna Lorden. Jim attended St. Marys school in Elkton and when it closed he attended Richland District 4-8. He farmed with his family and enjoyed traveling. He was baptized at Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church in Elkton. Jim is survived by his brother, Robert Lorden and his wife, Audrey, of Brookings; a nephew, Chuck Lorden and his wife, Carol and their children: Cameron and Cierra; a niece, Diane Smith and her husband, John and their children, Sara and Chris of Pierre, South Dakota. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Mary Lorden; his sister, Katherine; and his grandparents.
