James A. "Jimmy" Barton, age 48, of Brookings died Monday, August 8, 2016, at the Brookings Hospital. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Thursday, August 11, 2016, at Pioneer Lutheran Church near White, with interment in the church cemetery. Visitations will be from 4-7 p.m. Wednesday at Eidsness Funeral Home in Brookings.

James Albert Barton was born August 28, 1967, at Brookings, South Dakota, to James and Rosella (Schlobohm) Barton. He attended school at Brookings and then worked at ADVANCE and at Larson Manufacturing through ADVANCE.

Jimmy enjoyed visiting with people and made many friends. He enjoyed riding the 4-wheeler, being on the farm with his grandparents and later his aunt and uncle, bowling, gardening, and trapping.

Survivors include his mother and step-father, Rosella and David Thompson, of Brookings; his father, James Barton, of Arlington; sister, Roxanne (Jerry Helton) Ulness, of Brookings; an aunt and uncle, Kathy and Rod Poppe, of Brookings; a special friend, Don Keylon; and many friends at ADVANCE. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Lawrence and Evelyn Egeberg.
