Iva G. Biery, age 95, died Thursday, May 14, 2009, at the White Healthcare Center in White, South Dakota. Funeral services will be 10:30 A.M. Monday, May 18, 2009, at the United Methodist Church in White, with interment in Fairview Cemetery. Visitations will precede services at the church on Monday. Eidsness Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Iva Grace (Weicher) Biery was born August 9, 1913, at White, South Dakota, to Fred and Inez Thankful (Cowles) Weicher. She attended country school and high school at White. In 1934 she married Norton H. Biery at Brookings. Nort and Iva first resided on a farm in Oak Lake Township, and then moved to Montevideo, Minnesota. They lived in Marshall, Minnesota, for two years, and in 1938 returned to a farm in Oak Lake Township. They lived there for seven years before moving to a farm two miles north of White. In 1945, the Bierys moved into White. In 1965 Iva became employed for the SDSU food service, retiring in 1981. Nort died January 28, 1977. Iva moved to the White Healthcare Center in November 2003.
Iva was a member of the United Methodist Church in White. As a girl she loved horses, and later in life she enjoyed gardening, crocheting, and ceramics.
Survivors include her five daughters: Dolores E. Tellinghuisen of Lakewood, Colorado, Marlyne Papka of Dover, Florida, Carol A. (John) Pearson of St. Cloud, Minnesota, Nathelle K. (Barry) Nelson of Lake Norden, South Dakota, and Kathy (Dan) Tollefson of Willmar, Minnesota; 18 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; and 3 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.
