Irma Poss, 94, of White, South Dakota, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 23, 2020, surrounded by her family. Due to the current restrictions placed upon social gatherings, a private family service will be held, with burial taking place at Fairview Cemetery in White.
Irma Elizabeth Poss was born on October 4, 1925, in White, South Dakota, to Harrison and Alma (Harms) Moore. Irma spent her youth in the White area, attending White Public Schools, graduating in 1943. Following graduation, Irma attended Madison Eastern Normal, receiving her teaching certificate. Irma enjoyed teaching, and was a school teacher for about 4 years in White and Brookings rural schools. She also worked as a long distance telephone operator in California in 1945.
On August 29, 1946, Irma was united in marriage to Robert John Poss in Aurora, South Dakota. The couple lived in the White area throughout their marriage, farming in Afton Township, where Irma's grandparents lived. Robert passed away on April 1, of 1981.
Throughout her life Irma had many interests. She was a member of St. Paul's Catholic Church in White, where she also was a member of the Social Concerns Committee. Irma also belonged to the White Historical Society, Community Club, and the Six Mile Creek Golf Course Club.
Irma was an avid golfer in her later years. She also greatly enjoyed flowers, traveling, and playing Bingo. Perhaps her greatest joy in life, however, was her family and friends. Irma loved spending time visiting with her friends and relatives. Especially dear to her heart were her grandchildren, who could always make Irma smile, even in her final days.
Irma is survived by her children: Jeanne (Larry) Stuefen, of White, SD, Douglas (Barbara) Poss, of White, SD, James (Darla) Poss, of Brookings, SD, Janet Bailey, of Denver, CO, Larry (Linda) Poss, of White, SD, Rebecca (Kenneth) Goens, of White, SD, and Bradley Poss, of White, SD; 16 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild.
She is preceded in death by her husband; son, Ronald Robert Poss; grandson Ryan Poss; two brothers: Marvin, and Robert; sister, Eleanor Poss, and a brother-in-law, Maurice Poss.
