Irene Kreger, age 96, of Brookings, formerly of Huron, died Wednesday, August 18, 2010, at the United Retirement Center in Brookings. Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, August 24, 2010, at Eidsness Funeral Home in Brookings, with interment in Restlawn Memory Gardens at Huron at 2:30 P.M. Memorials may be directed to the URC Foundation or Senior Companions.
Irene Nana (Braun) Kreger was born March 24, 1914, in Minden, Nebraska, to Louis and Hattie (Berndt) Braun. They moved to Wolsey when Irene was a child. Irene graduated from Wolsey High School. She entered practical nurses training at Bethesda Hospital School of Practical Nursing in Crookston, Minnesota, and she worked in hospitals in Watertown, South Dakota, and Gaylord, Minnesota. She also worked for many years at the Violet Tschetter Memorial Nursing Home in Huron.
She married Francis Kreger on August 3, 1952. They later divorced.
Survivors include three children: Dennis Kreger of Watertown, South Dakota, Carolyn (Richard) Jordan of Watertown, Wisconsin, and Kathy (Rich) Reid of Brookings; three grandchildren: Lindsey Reid, Timothy Reid, and Rebecca Reid; one brother, Richard (Verona) Braun of Gwynedd, Pennsylvania; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Harold and Ralph, and one sister, Dorothy.
